Long-Term Substitute Teaching Opportunity
The Blue Springs school district is needing a long-term substitute for the Digital Media Program at the Career Innovation Center. This program serves 11th and 12th grade students and includes three specialized courses: Digital Media Productions, Short Film, and Video Podcasting.
The courses are highly hands-on and project-based, requiring consistent instructor leadership, student supervision, and technical guidance. To ensure continuity of instruction and maintain the quality of the program, it is important that students have a qualified long-term substitute who can oversee daily classroom operations and support ongoing projects. At this time, we are unsure how long we will need a long-term substitute but do anticipate needing someone for several weeks and possible a few months.
Course Descriptions
Digital Media Productions
Students learn the process of corporate video production for internal business purposes such as training and recruiting videos, as well as external marketing projects. The course covers concept development, script writing, producing, filming, and editing while providing real-world experiences through project work and exposure to agencies and production companies.
Short Film
This course guides students through the process of creating a short film, including writing, budgeting, scheduling, preproduction, filming, editing, and distribution. Students collaborate with classmates using professional digital media technology to produce original stories while developing teamwork and creative communication skills.
Video Podcasting
Students explore the complete production process of creating a successful video podcast. Topics include developing concepts, identifying a personal style or genre, writing, producing, editing, audience engagement, and distribution. Students also analyze successful podcasts and gain hands-on production experience throughout the course.
General Teaching Responsibilities
A long-term substitute would be responsible for:
Delivering daily instruction and facilitating course activities. The teacher is creating lesson plans for the semester and should be able to provide those to the long term substitute when they start.
Supervising students during production-based projects and collaborative assignments.
Providing guidance on script development, filming, audio recording, editing, and digital media production workflows.
Managing classroom equipment, technology, and production resources.
Monitoring student progress, attendance, and classroom behavior.
Maintaining continuity of ongoing projects and ensuring students meet course objectives and deadlines.
Communicating with administrators, counselors, and parents as needed regarding student progress and program activities.
The hours for the long-term substitute is 7:00am – 2:30pm. The Digital Media Program operates during three instructional sessions each day: Session A (7:30-8:45 a.m.), Session B (9:45-11:00 a.m.), and Session C (12:45-2:00 p.m.) at the Career Innovation Center.
